The Little Red Owl

DIY ideas for home, health, & life

I recently made a change in my living room decor, you might remember my indecision from this post (I will share my updated living room soon, promise!).

One of the changes I made was to take the giant metal star from above our bed and move it into the living room above the TV and record player. I LOVE this in the living, it seems to go better and I like the simplicity on that wall. BUT, this left my bedroom wall bare–I cannot handle bare (not even for a day).

Luckily I had 3 great canvases on hand (I scored them FREE from a friend that moved recently and no longer had room for them).

I started off thinking I might paint the canvases but none of the paint I had on hand seemed to be right and I did NOT want to buy ANYTHING.

So, I gave up on the painting idea and used some fabric panels I had on hand (scored at Target years ago for $5.00) to cover the canvases.

I just wrapped the canvases in the fabric and used the staple gun to secure the sides and back.

I then painted on an A (for Amy) and a J (for Husband) and added a unique heart shaped design to the white covered canvas.

I like how they turned out. I am thinking of adding some trim to the sides to polish off the look.

This was easy, quick, and free. Doesn’t get much better than that. Sometimes I LOVE not having home decor in my budget-it FORCES me to be creative and re-use items I might normally pass up.

What do you think?
