When I got married over 8 years ago I had no intention of registering for wedding china. Husband and I had nothing – I mean nothing. Everything we acquired was given to us graciously by family and friends. So I was looking to fill my home with basics not fancy wedding china. Luckily, my mother talked me into registering for some china and I am so glad she did.
I know that wedding china may seem like an outdated idea and may not be something you are interested in, but give it a second thought. This is an heirloom; this is something you will most likely NEVER buy for yourself (at least in full sets), and it is fun to use!
Husband and I did end up receiving all 10 sets of our wedding china and that was a huge blessing (mostly thanks to a very generous uncle). I will admit that for the first 5 years of our marriage we only used the china twice, maybe. I had no good place to store it and I was not willing to take a chance on something getting broken or lost.
I have since lightened up, I decided to start using my china anytime a guest is at our home. Not only do I get to share my beautiful dishes with them, it also helps class up the event (even if it is just my sister and brother-in-law for hot dogs and potatoes). Nothing has been broken or lost yet, but I have decided that I will be okay if, strike that, WHEN that happens.
My great-aunt recently downsized to a smaller home and was getting rid of a few furniture pieces. My aunt took a beautiful custom made wood china cabinet and that left her (actually my Great- grandma’s) china cabinet up for grabs.
Bonus! I love that this was my great Grandmother’s. I also love that it was free and is in great condition. Thank goodness for family. I literally do not know where I would be without them.
What great things has your family done for you lately?
Do you have wedding china-do you use it?
