The Little Red Owl

DIY ideas for home, health, & life

Color. I love color. My first apartment was all white (and we weren’t allowed to paint). I only lasted there 8 months-I was going crazy.

Lesson learned: don’t be afraid of color!

Paint is a great, inexpensive way to add personality, interest, and color to your space.

Take the clear blue walls in my previous dining room for example:

Another inexpensive way to add color is with window treatments, the ones hanging in the above photo are actually clearance shower curtains.

simple strips

Even though this room is gray and white, it still has “color”. I added simply strips to the walls in this room.

I did not measure so the strips have an organic look to them which I love!

This room is pale green so I added a bold touch of color through the bright pink curtains-a little girly? Yes.        So what!?

Again with this room I utilized curtains to add the pop of color (and add height to our sloped roof TV room)

This mustard yellow color works great in the kitchen. The kitchen is already well lit and has white cabinets. This bold color adds even more life.

I painted accent walls in the living room a bright teal. The color is not too overwhelming since its only 2 1/2 walls.

what’s your favorite color? do you use it in your home?

  1. Rachael D. says:

I do love the teal in your living room!

Amy, I can see what you mean by color. Just viewing these rooms I could feel my spirits reviving or something. They give one a lift. All your ideas are paying off for you. But it least I do have a couple or three nice colors, my bathroom, kitchen and dining room. I can’t believe the vibrant blue that you have and it does look great. The shower curtain is really fun.Keep up the good looks.
Grandma p.s. That last post I made said that I used a cereal box but it was a “granola box” which was smaller.
