The Little Red Owl

DIY ideas for home, health, & life

i like to paint, but i am admittedly impatient and want things done as simply and quickly as possible. here are few “shortcuts” that work well for me:

example 1: when we moved into our first home, the ceiling of our dining room had a thin strip of orange paint on it. it did not match any of my decor. instead of painting the whole ceiling again, i continued the wall color onto the ceiling about 1/2-1 foot in. i love the clean lines and the illusion of an architectural element it creates.

example 2: i wanted to paint the 2 bedrooms in my new home but again was feeling anxious about getting the painting done. i put painting tape all around the room about 6 inches to a foot below where the ceiling and wall meet. this created yet another clean line, added a little variety, and made the painting super easy and quick. i did not have to measure to put the tape up because i have a good eye and did not worry about perfection.

example 3: the bathroom is large (at least to me). when i started painting the walls i noticed that the room felt unfinished, so i painted the ceiling along with the walls. this made for no tape, no cutting in, and super easy application. i think it looks great.

I admire the way you explain these applications of painting, one can tell you have been to college. College does this for you to my estimation.
